Like to eat marine animals including molluscs, crabs and bait. But also shellfish such as mussels. Starfish do not mate but release their gametes into the seawater.

Distribution:
Found in the European seas from the north of Norway to the Iberian Peninsula, and further along the North American coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Rare in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
