Like to eat small crustaceans and fish larvae. Lives in shallow coastal waters between eelgrass fields and seaweeds, to which they cling with their tails. Spawns from April to October. The female lays the eggs in the breeding pouch of the male. The young are born between May and August and are protected in the breeding pouch.
Distribution:
South Western European coasts. In recent years a fairly regular summer visitor in Zeeland waters and in the Wadden Sea.
