Like to eat crustaceans, fish larvae and small fish such as sardines. The depth distribution is 0 to 1000 m below the water surface. The population in the North Sea spawns in the southern part in summer and then migrates to the central part of the North Sea, the Skagerrak and the Kattegat.
Along the coasts of the Low Countries this is a common sea fish during the summer months.

Distribution:
Atlantic horse mackerel is found in seawater and lives in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean from Norway to South Africa, to Mozambique and in the Mediterranean. It is also found in the North Sea.
